In December 2002, the National Central Library and Taipei City Archives collaborated in the digitalization and utilization of historical documents and literature. This series of old photographs are a part of this collaboration. The original items are archived at the Taipei City Archives; these have been digitalized and authorized for usage by the National Central Library. The time periods and contents of these old photographs span from the end of the Qing dynasty, through the Japanese colonial era, to Taipei City in the 1950s. There are 849 photographs in the collection; their contents include buildings, roads and streets, city walls, industries, waterways, scenic spots, transportation and community life.
