Genealogies record the history of a family, clan and surname, and as such provide an important resource for understanding the social development, people and culture of a nation. In 2004, the NCL began collaborating with the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU) to copy 794 rolls of microfilm with genealogical records on Taiwan. The NCL has been digitally converting this material from 2005 to 2009. The library has also been annotating, analyzing and compiling the digitized material into a database. The database comprised 14,075 genealogies with 940,958 pages of full-text image. This material can be freely browsed and searched online.
