Introduction

 The Japan Center for Asian Historical Records is a subordinate organization under the National Archives of Japan. The center is responsible for providing openly-accessible digitized historical information related to Japan and its neighboring countries. No log-in or registration is required. The user can search and access the relevant historical information any time, any place. The open information provided by the center and their sources are as follows: 

1. National Archives of Japan (information written and compiled by the Cabinet of Japan and other governmental agencies) 
2. Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (information related to diplomacy) 
3. National Institute for Defense Studies (information related to the army and the navy)

Currently, there are around 2.1 million catalog entries and 30 million images in the center's database. Most of the information was written and compiled between the Meiji Reform period to before the end of the Pacific War. The open information available for access will gradually be expanded to include the period after the end of the Pacific War.

Among the center's open information, the main information that is related to Taiwan are as follows: 
1. The information written and compiled by the Home Ministry and the Ministry of Colonial Affairs which had jurisdiction over the Taiwan Sotokufu. 
2. The information written and compiled by the Taiwan Sotokufu, Bank of Taiwan, Taiwan Development Co. Ltd.
